Istanbul, 27 May 2025 – The Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists, in cooperation with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and supported by Sida, held a workshop titled “Understand, Verify, Prompt: Boosting Journalism with AI”. The session was led by Saja Mortada from the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism‘s Arab Fact-Checkers Network.

As part of the UfM Digital Sustainable Week, this two-hour hybrid workshop — accessible both online and in-person in Istanbul — equipped participants with practical skills in leveraging generative AI tools to support journalism. Key topics included streamlining research processes, enhancing storytelling, and improving fact-checking efficiency.

Focusing specifically on empowering women in media, the event aimed to foster dialogue around gender-aware applications of AI. It provided a dedicated space for female journalists to explore how they can play a central role in shaping the future of journalism through ethical and effective uses of artificial intelligence.

With AI swiftly reshaping media dynamics, this training is timely and critical, offering journalists, researchers, and fact-checkers essential insights and skills for navigating the evolving digital landscape.
