Are you passionate about news and politics? Do you know exactly which topics dominate newspapers, news websites and news broadcasts? And can you interpret what the public image means for the ministry? Then the role of media analyst in the Newsroom of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) could be just right for you.
The Newsroom brings together news, politics, society and communications. Every day is different and sometimes unpredictable, with an enormous diversity of topics. One day there may be elections or a debate about the democratic rule of law. The next day, the minister may be debating the housing shortage or the scarcity of space in the Netherlands. Whether it concerns an efficient and reliable government, the powers of the AIVD, relations with the Caribbean islands within the Kingdom, or the recovery operation in Groningen: BZK-related issues are constantly under close scrutiny in society.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Newsroom is looking for a media analyst. As a media analyst in the Newsroom, you bring the outside world inside and give it meaning. You are constantly monitoring developments and perspectives from the outside world, making you the ministry’s eyes and ears. You stay on top of the news, while also identifying long-term trends. You do this by preparing media overviews and analyses. Contributing ideas to and supporting public opinion research is also part of the role.
You easily find your way around the (online) media landscape. You identify important news coverage and relevant discussions in (social) media in a timely manner, and produce analyses of media attention for many colleagues at BZK, including press officers, policy officers, senior political and civil service officials, and communications advisers. Through your environmental analyses, you contribute to strategic advice for the ministry and its ministers and state secretary.
One or several days a week, you will work from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on the daily news analysis. In addition, you will be responsible for news monitoring in the Newsroom at least one day a week. Alongside current affairs, you will also focus on longer-term products, such as analyses of specific policy areas in preparation for parliamentary debates, as input for a communications strategy, or to measure the impact of communications activities. For this, you will also work closely with communications colleagues, such as press officers and communications advisers. You will serve as the permanent point of contact on behalf of the media analysts within one of the communications teams supporting a minister or state secretary.
