SPIEGEL Documentation is a kind of think tank: support the editorial teams of the SPIEGEL Group, assist them with research, and check finished articles, including images, before publication. With 60 documentation journalists, including lawyers, historians, Islamic studies scholars, physicists and economists, physicians and geologists, provide knowledgeable points of contact for the key journalistic questions arising across the SPIEGEL Group.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Responsibilities

• Main tasks are fact-checking and research. You review editorial content (text, image, and video material) for factual accuracy and plausibility, and place current events within their historical and cultural context.
• Conduct research for the SPIEGEL Group’s departments (Foreign Desk, with a focus on France) on political and social developments, and take on background research on individuals and current situations, including on social media. Also compile information from press and specialist databases as well as reliable online sources.
• Support the editorial team in assessing extensive research material, confidential documents, or studies, and place them within the broader cultural and political context.
• Work within the Foreign Documentation team and support colleagues from other departments with questions relating to international topics.
