about us

The Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists is a collaborative community of women journalists from across the region that facilitates dialogue and serves as a hub for reporters to network, exchange ideas and best practices, and promote more inclusive journalism. It aims to combat gender discrimination and stereotypes in media coverage and to strengthen the role of women in the profession.

The network provides members with resources – ranging from style guides to directories of women experts – as well as training sessions with external specialists on professionally-relevant topics. It also fosters collaboration opportunities allowing members to support each other in their work and career development.

The network emerged from the “Media and Gender Equality – Shifting Narratives” debate at the 2024 High-level Conference on Women for the Mediterranean (official conclusions here) in Nicosia that brought together 15 journalists from Northern, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries. Participants discussed challenges and good practices relating to media narratives on gender equality and called for the creation of the Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists to follow up on these issues.

This initiative aligns with the key commitments outlined in the 5th UfM Ministerial Declaration on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, which advocates for amplifying women’s voices and leadership—particularly among younger generations—through close collaboration with media and social media actors.

The network is supported by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in collaboration with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
