Middle East Eye Fellowship 2027 : Middle East Eye (Middle East)
Author:Zeineb Haj Slimane

Middle East Eye has launched a fellowship to support independent journalists in the region in producing in-depth reporting. Each year, it focuses on a topic of major importance to the region. The 2027 theme is “The Rise of Artificial Intelligence”.

AI is increasingly becoming a new tool in the machinery of repression in the Middle East: military targeting, securitisation, the spread of data centres, disinformation campaigns and foreign interference. These uses deepen inequalities and have devastating effects on people’s lives across the region.

Selected fellows receive a one-time project grant of $1,500, along with institutional support and mentoring from the Middle East Eye team. The project must result in a written report of around 2,000 words, backed by strong visuals such as photos and video. The team supports production through editing, graphic design and film production. The fellowship runs from January to June 2027, with regular check-ins.

DEADLINE: November 01, 2026
