The National Press Foundation (NPF) is offering professional journalists worldwide a free online training from November 16 to 20, 2026, focused on reporting on rare diseases. More than 7,000 rare diseases have been identified, affecting around 300 million people. This fifth edition, supported by Fondation Ipsen, aims to increase their visibility in the media.
The programme includes briefings and Q&A sessions with leading experts. Topics include rare disease research in Africa, AI-driven drug development, childhood genetic testing and screening, and more inclusive clinical trials. Leaders of patient advocacy groups and experienced journalists will also speak.
NPF is also offering up to $2,000 in reporting grants to 20 journalists to carry out a rare disease project of their choice. The work will be published in the fellows’ own outlets, then reprinted in a compilation book produced by Fondation Ipsen.
DEADLINE: October 22, 2026 at 11:59 pm ET (Eastern Time)
