Founded in 1981, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is an independent, non-profit organization that defends journalists worldwide, regardless of their political ideology. Over more than four decades, it has helped secure the early release of imprisoned journalists, convictions in journalist murder cases and legal reforms in countries where free expression has deteriorated. Headquartered in the United States, CPJ is committed to equity, free expression and an inclusive workplace that reflects the global community on which it reports.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The North Africa Researcher documents, investigates and reports on press freedom violations and threats to journalists in North Africa. The role includes research and writing for CPJ’s editorial and advocacy output, maintaining up-to-date data on press freedom violations, and translating reports between Arabic and English.
The role covers five areas of work: monitoring and documentation, research and writing, engagement and coordination, Journalist Assistance (JA) support, and additional support.
DEADLINE: October 23, 2026
