What is Newsroom Connect 2026?

Newsroom Connect 2026 is a two-day regional editorial hackathon organised by Media Connect, the regional media network of EU MedBridge, the regional communication programme of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Middle East, North Africa & the Gulf (DG MENA).

Media Connect regional network brings together a vibrant community of 115+ journalism students, young journalists and media professionals across 11 countries in the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf, alongside diaspora communities in Europe. Through training, collaboration and exchange, the network supports a new generation of media professionals and strengthens Connections regionally.

The Newsroom Connect 2026 edition brings together journalism students, young journalists, media professionals, experts and trainers to explore this year’s theme: Peace & Constructive Journalism.

Although Newsroom Connect is a regional initiative, the hackathon will take place simultaneously and in person in each participating country over two full days, on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026.
